March 27, 1926 – December 22, 2020

 

A Time to be Born

Ruth Anna Velma Wimberly was born in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Early J. and Allene Wimberly on March 27,1926.

​

A Time to Live

Ruth fondly known as “Boonie” a nickname given to her by her maternal Uncle Johnny was born in a Christian home. She accepted Christ at an early age, and joined Zion Field Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.M. Stephens. She attended Pleasant Hill Grammar School and Storm Branch Academy Boarding School.

Upon moving to New Jersey with the family in 1947 she joined Second Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, NJ under the leadership of Rev. M.D. Bobbitt. As a dedicated servant she sang on the Fully Committed Chorus and the Usher Board for more than 50 years. Ruth worked as a private babysitter and a domestic in various parts of Burlington County. She also worked at Fryar’s Dry Cleaners in Mt. Holly for many years. Ruth was the in-home caretaker for both her parents until the time of their death 1988 and 1998.

In 2016 Ruth moved to Lawnside, NJ to reside with her niece Donna Wimberly. She continued to attend Second Baptist most Sundays by her personal driver Mr. John Stewart, who became a dear friend. Ruth was a client at the Prestige Adult Medical Day Care in Cherry Hill, NJ where she was an active member playing bingo, crafting and chair exercises until her passing.

Time to Love

Though no children of her own, she was loved by her numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was always willing to babysit, help with school pick- ups, run errands and visit with the sick to comfort.

​

Time to Mourn

Ruth was preceding in death by her parents Early J and Allene: 1 brother Leroy Wimberly, and 3 sisters, Beatrice Rouse, Alice Oakman, and Frances Dantzler. She leaves to mourn her youngest brother Willie James (Junior) Wimberly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

 

Life Celebration Services, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 11AM at the Second Baptist Church, 306 Washington Street, Mt. Holly, NJ. Family and friends may view from 10AM until time of service. Interment Odd Fellows Cemetery, Pemberton, NJ
