Ruth V. Morton Henry
​
Ruth V. Morton Henry, 93, was born on March 8, 1927 in Supply, Virginia to the late Ulysses and
Wilder Morton. She passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020.
At an early age, she moved with her family to New Jersey. Ruth met and married her loving
husband, the late Elmont C. Henry. Of this union two children were born, the late LaVerne T.
Henry Hayes and the late Charles (Choo) Henry.
Ruth was educated in the Florence, New Jersey school system.
Ruth accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church, Florence,
New Jersey on July 19, 1939. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church and served
on the Junior Choir, Senior Missionary, Bible Study (under the late Brother Samuel Hill) and
helped with Vacation Bible School. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23 and her favorite song
was “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. She loved her church and truly missed not being able to
attend.
Ruth worked at General Motors in Ewing, NJ, from which she retired after over two decades of
service. Following retirement, Ruth moved to Richmond, Virginia with her grandchildren in
2010.
Ruth was a hard-working, gentle and compassionate woman. She enjoyed traveling, shopping,
watching football and family gatherings. She was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. She
especially enjoyed throwing her annual Memorial Day Cookout for family, friends and
neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Sylvester Morton, Roger Morton and Marion Morton.
She leaves to mourn and will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren, Lisa Y. West, Willingboro,
NJ, Tonya Sykes Spurlock (Marvin), Richmond, VA, Todd Sykes, Richmond, VA and K. Tyrone
Hayes II (Wendy), Florence, NJ; great grandchildren, Tiara West, Helena Estrada and Kenneth
Hayes III, great-great grandchildren Zari Greer and Jahmir Boylan, brothers, Ulysses Morton
(Ruby) and Robert Morton, sister-n-law, Lottie Morton, her devoted best friend Emma Ruffin,
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James Norman Hatchell
​
James Norman Hatchell, a loving father and retired Operating Engineer, forever closed his eyes on July 29, 2020 in his home at the age of 76. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, his love of fishing, his love of eating good food, his billiard playing skills, his grilling skills, his love of wearing a hat, his love of music, his love of dancing and his love of travel to each and every person who touched his life.
James Norman Hatchell entered this world on April 18, 1944 in Dillion, SC to the proud parents of Weston and Ann Hatchell. He was the oldest of seven siblings and lived a full and active life. He went to public school in Dillion, SC until he moved to North Carolina as a teenager. He lived in North Carolina with his Uncle Jessie and Aunt Pearl and their children and attended Bladen Central High School. James considered them to be his second family and would always go back to visit them whenever he traveled south. As a boy, he would work on the tobacco farm as well as on the various family farms in addition to working at other places such as Lukens Steele Mill where he worked until 1972. He developed a love for big machines as a youngster when he jumped a road plow and started it up and ultimately joined the Operating Engineers Union 825 in 1972 and retired in 2008. He would travel in his RV with his family to many amusement parks and pretty much anywhere they needed to go. James loved cars and shared that love with his 3 sons. He owed several cars over the years, including a Chevrolet Corvair, a Plymouth Satellite, a convertible Pontiac LeMans, a Chevy Impala, and a Plymouth Belvedere just to name a few. Each automobile can tell its own story. For example, the Satellite was his first brand new car and the Chevy Impala brought him and his wife to the north to start a family.
He eventually moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he met the love of his life, Wanda Rushing, one Friday Night at a club in North Carolina in 1969. He was a long- haul truck driver working for Thomas and Howard at the time and was driving through Marshville, North Carolina when he spotted her parents’ home. He stopped right there on the side of the road, walked up to the house where her parents were sitting on the porch and inquired about Wanda. They did not give him an easy time, but he kept coming back and a year later; on July 18, 1970 at Wilson Heights Church of God, James made Wanda his wife. James was so excited and nervous that day that he forgot to bring his shoes and of course Wanda was angry at him for that, but the anger did not last long as they danced the night away. After they were married, Mr. and Mrs. James Hatchell moved into an apartment in North Carolina and soon after relocated to the north. They moved to Coatesville, Pennsylvania and lived with his Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Albert. They moved from Coatesville, PA to live with his cousin Hazel May who lived near the Campbells Soup Factory in Camden, New Jersey. They stayed with her there a short time and then secured their own apartment in Camden where they started a family. James had his first child, James Norman Hatchell the second, on July 6, 1972. They then purchased a home in Willingboro, New Jersey in 1974 and had their second child, Wanda Michelle Hatchell, on November 25, 1974. Five years later, they had their third child, Desmond James Hatchell, on November 5, 1979 and on December 28, 1983, they had their last child, Justin Rushing Hatchell. They settled down in that home for the next 40 + years where their love of music, dance, fishing and each other kept them together until March 26, 2015 when he became a widower. He continued to enjoy fishing, playing pool and hanging out with his cousin, Jerome until his homegoing on July 29th.
James is survived by his four children, Norman Hatchell, II and his wife Rose, Wanda Hatchell, Desmond Hatchell and his wife, Tarene, and Justin Hatchell; his seven grandchildren Dominque, Jasmine, Nolan, Trinity, Kayla, Tamar, and Blush; his 3 siblings, A. Lavon Hatchell-Copper, Musa Akram (Gloria), and Annie Hatchell; many cousins and friends; preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Hatchell; his 2 brothers Clea and Richard and 1 sister, Alfredia; his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Mipri Alizabeth Haye
​
On Thursday July 30, 2020 at 2:28am, Mipri Alizabeth Haye, was called home to be with the Lord at the young age of 20.
Mipri, a beautiful brilliant baby girl, was born in Richmond, VA on March 31, 2000 to her parents Capri Scott-Williams and Michael Haye.
Mipri was acknowledged throughout her educational journey for her academic achievements. She has always been an honor roll student. Mipri was a Girl Scout (Troop 22054) from 4th to 10th grade where she received the Bronze Award. Mipri was a member of Jack & Jill of America Inc. (Burlington-Willingboro Chapter) from 2010-2014. Mipri graduated “Cum Laude” from Washington Township High School in 2018 and was the recipient of the Presidential Award of Educational Excellence.
Mipri enrolled at Rowan University as a full time student where she studied Criminal Justice. She had future aspirations to become a Defense Attorney which would’ve ultimately propelled her into a life career as a Judge. Mipri worked at TD Bank as a Personal Banker while enrolled in College.
Mipri was all about the glam (hair done, nails done, everything did!). Everyone involuntarily was her personal photographer as she loved taking pictures. Mipri brought sunshine into every room with her infectious smile. Mipri’s favorite saying was “Good Morning” regardless of the time of day. She was infamous for always saying “I Love You” before ending every call or text.
Mipri had a passion for family. She kept in touch with almost every single family member and built her own interpersonal relationships.
Mipri leaves to honor her memory her devoted Mother Capri and loving Father Michael. She leaves to mourn her Gi Gi (Grandmother) and Grandma Choral. Her cherished siblings Kenneil, Shadika, Michael Jr., Shantel, Jahmal, Myana, Shadae, Maddison, Malea and her doting baby brother Chase. Also, her niece Jahlea, her nephews Kevon Jr., Mikel and her favorite cousin Bobby, whom she loved dearly. Along with a host of great-grandparents, Godparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.

Linda Scott Russell
​
Linda Scott Russell was born and raised in Louisa, VA as Linda Canell Scott on March 31, 1949 to James B. and Lettie P. Scott. She proudly let others know she was a “Southern Gal”.
She attended A.G. Richardson Training School where she met the love of her life Larry S. Russell. She graduated on June 10, 1968. Immediately after, Larry and Linda married on June 29, 1968. They had three beautiful children; Lariney S., LaMar S. and LaVon S. Russell. They were married for 50 years.
Linda and Larry moved to Philadelphia. Pa early in their marriage. They stayed there for a few years until they found their forever home in Willingboro, NJ in February 1977.
Linda worked as a faithful employee for Smith Kline & Beecham, Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital, CVS warehouse, and Twin Oaks Charles Yate Center (mid 2000’s) where she retired. Linda gave her life to Christ as a teenager. She was an active church member of Galilee Baptist Church, Kent Store, VA (early childhood) Deliverance Evangelistic Church, Burlington, NJ, Christ Community, Willingboro, NJ, Bethany Baptist Church, Lindenwold, NJ and Garden of Prayer, Pemberton, NJ.
Linda was one of the sweetest, kindest, people you could ever meet. She loved spending time laughing with family and friends. In her young adult life she was part of a singing group called “The Scott Sisters” along with her sisters Rosa, and Ann. She enjoyed her time with all her sisters (Delaphine and Teresa as well). Also, she loved animals. She could get any animal to come and talk to her on our back porch. From skunks, squirrels to raccoons they all would come and spend time with her, as if she was some type of animal whisperer. You could always go to her with anything she would fix it by praying, always with her oil in hand. She gave the best advice. Your time with her always ended with a hug and sealed with a kiss.
Linda is survived by her brother’s James, Gilbert (Barbara), Alfonza (Sue) and Millard (Isabel) Scott, brother-in-law Robert Grooms, mother-in-law Louise Russell, daughters LaMar S. Russell Arnold and Cheryl A. Martin Russell, her sons Lariney S. LaVon S. Russell and Fabian Arnold grandchildren; Shadell Rice, Kenneth and Sha’Nae Holmes, Jo Naie Russell, Cherelle and Lamar Blackwell, George Randall III (Tre’), Jaden, Amaya, Angel and Layla Arnold and Tavon Richardson. A host of great-grands, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends whom she adored.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, sister-in-laws, Edwina Russell Hawkins, Shirley Scott, brother-in-law, James B. Harris, her parents, her sisters and one brother, Oscar Scott.

Bennie Jackson, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. June 6, 1960 to Bennie Sr. and Sylvia Jackson. He slipped away peacefully in his Mother’s Loving Arms on
July 24, 2020, he was 60 years old. He was also affectionately called “Teddy”.
Bennie was a graduate of Burlington County Institute of Technology in Westampton, NJ. He was employed at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, NJ for over 25 years. He was also a member of the New Life Assembly Church in Wrightstown, NJ.
Bennie loved history!!!! He had the opportunity to volunteer part-time at the Underground Railroad Museum in Smithville, NJ.
Bennie enjoyed reading his bible, Red Lobster (one of his favorite places to eat) and spending time with his family and friends.
Bennie’s sweet smile will be missed and remembered by his loving Mother,
Sylvia A. Gailliard; brother, Brian Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Jacquelyn and Phil Greenwood; aunt, Patricia Battle; uncle, Steve Jackson; Great Aunts, Gladys Wallace, May McDow and Juanita Faulk. Bennie will also be missed by his loving cousins and many friends.

Ben Hosey Jr.
​
Ben Hosey Jr. was born July 17, 1938, to the late Ben Sr. and Louise Blanks Hosey in Laurel, Mississippi. Ben came from a large and loving family. He was the seventh of ten children. Ben attended the public school system in Laurel where he graduated from Oak Park High School. Upon his graduation he enlisted in the Army. Ben served in the Army for over 22 years and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. During his military tenure he received many awards and decorations to include National Defense Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, 2 Bronze Stars, 4 Army Achievement Medals, 7 Good Conduct Medals, 4 Overseas Bars and Expert Rifle Badges for the M14 and M16. For Ben, serving his country was an immense honor, which he took very seriously. Upon his retirement from the military, Ben worked at the New Lisbon Developmental Center for 22 years. He retired from New Lisbon as a Head Cottage Technician. Ben met the love of his life, Mary Joyce Lloyd. They fell deeply in love and married on September 16, 1978. They were married for over 42 years, but their love story existed for over 52 years. Ben loved his sports. On almost any weekend you could always find Ben at a bowling alley with a bowling ball in his hand. He was an avid bowler. He also loved his Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers and the Phillies. He always defended them no matter where they ranked. Ben was a faithful member of Friendship A.M.E. Church, where he professed his undying love of God who was always first in his thoughts. Ben loved the Lord and enjoyed working in the church. He served as a Trustee and later became the Vice Chair of the Trustee Board. He was also a member of the Male Chorus, Senior Choir, Men’s Ministry and Finance Committee. Ben worked diligently on the Finance Committee every Sunday until his health would no longer allow him. Ben always walked hand and hand with God until his transition to his final home. Ben is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ben Sr., and Louise Hosey; Brothers Walter Hozey, JB Hosey, Bill Bell; Sisters Elma Lou Wilson, Frances Lang, Arthereen Hearn, and Maeretta Bridges. Melvin Thomas Barrett
​
Melvin Thomas Barrett was called home on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. He was gently guided home with God’s mercy at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ. Melvin was born in Farmville, North Carolina to Lester and Rebecca Barrett on December 22, 1948. He was one of 10 children born to this union.
Melvin completed his high school education in Farmville and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Colorado, and South Korea before being honorably discharged after four years of service. After the military he relocated to Newark, New Jersey. He enrolled in Essex County Community College and received an Associate Degree in Science. He then enrolled in the engineering program at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
He worked at Westinghouse before the job of his dreams. Melvin was hired at the East Orange Fire Department in 1981. He was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain in 1995. He honorably served the E.O.F.D. for twenty-eight years, retiring in 2009. This was a job that he considered to be a blessing because he could serve the citizens of East Orange who required the Fire Department’s help. During his years of service Melvin received the 1999 Valor Award from Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and the E.O.F.D. Silver Medal Award for a fire rescue where he and his fellow firefighters went above the call of duty. He also was given a Proclamation from the City of East Orange, and a commendation from the New Jersey State Assembly for exemplary courage for entering a high rise building and rescuing a woman who was trapped on the 7th floor in an apartment that was engulfed in flames. Melvin was a member of F.L.A.M.E. (East Orange’s Minority Fire Fighters Association) and the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters. His love for the fire department is evidence in the fact that he only took off work for the birth of his two children and on the rare occasion when he was hospitalized.
Melvin met his wife Ruth while he was working for the fire department. They started dating in July of 1985 and were married on June 18, 1988. They shared 32 blessed years until his death. They had a wonderful relationship built on adoration and respect for each other. Melvin and Ruth were overjoyed to have two children, Jade Frances Barrett, and Jordan Thomas Barrett. Melvin was an outstanding father that always showed love and compassion for his children. There was never a time when a hug was not offered in love to uplift or celebrate achievements that Jade, and Jordan made. He would beam with pride when he would share firefighter talks with Jade. He was equally proud of Jordan when he graduated from Virginia State University. He was a dutiful husband and father. Everything that he did was centered around the care of his family.
In his days of better health, Melvin loved to run, play basketball and draw. He was incredibly talented and could do all three very well. He loved a good movie too, the last movie that we watched together was the Black Panther. He loved the special effects and the power of King T’Challa. He loved the positive images of the movie.
Melvin accepted the Lord and was baptized with his family at Tabernacle Church, Burlington NJ. He joined and received the right hand of fellowship in 2004. He continued to attend TBC until his health prohibited his attendance. But anyone who knew Melvin knew that he loved the Lord!
Melvin will be missed, but his family knows that he will see God and his heavenly rewards for being a good man, a loving husband, and a wonderful father.

Joseph Benjamin Houston
​
Joseph Benjamin Houston, better known as “Deacon” Houston, was translated to Heaven on Friday, July 24, 2020 at age 91. Deacon Houston was born on October 22, 1929 in Burlington, New Jersey. He was one of eleven children born to Dennis and Annie Belle Houston.
His childhood days were happily spent growing up in Burlington City. However, his adult life took him to New York where he worked as a construction laborer for the Reed company for many years. While working at a construction site there, he miraculously survived a fall from eleven stories high! Surely demonstrating God had more plans for his life. Those plans included serving in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge in 1953.
During a serious illness of his mother, he returned to New Jersey to be of help to her. By 1984 he had joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where his faithful service included prayer meeting coordinator and using his gifted tenor voice to sing with the men’s choir as well as the mass choir. He became a deacon at the church in 1986 where he served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until illness prevented him from attending church.
His ministering at various nursing homes brought him to meet the one who would become his partner in ministry and companion for 21 years, then Minister Sylena Dupont. Their lives and ministry merged together as they married on October 3, 2020. To God Be the Glory!
Predeceased by previous spouses, Mary of Queens, NY and Justeen of Burlington, NJ; four brothers John, David, Peter and Nathan; four sisters Emma, Anna Pandora, Evelyn and Christine; he is survived by his wife Rev. Sylena Houston of Edgewater Park, NJ: also survived by step-sons David Dupont (Betty) and Floyd Dupont both of NJ; William Dupont (Iris) of MD; one brother Lewis Houston (Kathy) and one sister Gertrude Evans both of NJ; two special couples Ministers Larry and Vivian Styles; Rev. Kenneth and Crystal McRae and a host of nephews, nieces, a loving church family and friends.

Robert Perry Watson
​
Robert Perry Watson was born May 22, 1941 to the parents of Deacon Ferdinand and Bernice Neal Watson of Jackson, North Carolina.
Robert accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was baptized at the Antioch Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina. He remained a faithful member until he graduated from high school.
Robert’s formal education began at Antioch Elementary School in Jackson, North Carolina, then transferred to W. S. Creecy School in Rich Square North Carolina, where he graduated from with the Class of 1960. While at W.S Creecy, Robert was crowned King of the 7-H Club, a Northampton County school bus driver, and was active in sports.
After graduating from high school, Robert went on to A &T College in Greensboro, North Carolina, pursuing a career in Engineering.
Robert relocated to Newark, New Jersey where he met the love of his life Amelia Green (Amy). They were united in marriage at Abbyssinia Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey on August 10, 1963.
Robert was drafted into the Army where he served as a Cable Splicer during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Newark, New Jersey and his previous occupation at Westinghouse, Lamp Division in Bloomfield, New Jersey for a short time.
Robert was offered a transfer to the Sales Department, in Syracuse, New York, and then to Willingboro, New Jersey where he and his family remain.
Robert was also employed at Phillips Lighting Corporation, in Somerset, New Jersey and the Times Newspaper of Trenton New Jersey.
Robert also attended Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Robert was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Emeritus where he worked with Mr. Ted Nixon and others with the Afri Male Institute and the young men in the community.
Robert worked with the Willingboro Track Club, as a board member and coach.
Robert was a member of Bethlehem AME Church, Burlington, New Jersey, where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Steward Board, and the Chancel Choir.
Robert served as the Jr. Vice Commander for the DAV Willingboro Chapter #42.
Robert leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife Amelia (Amy) of the home, 1 son, Sean Robert (Dewana), whom they both adore. 4 grandchildren, Chloe Marie Elizabeth, Sean Robert II, Sydney Lynn, and Jamil Tihir, all of Philadelphia, PA. 3 Sisters, Anne Robinson of Clinton MD, Joyce Hunt of Newark, NJ and Dr. Florenzia Davis of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, 3 brothers Bobby E. Watson (Brenda), Freddie Watson (Claudette) Columbia MD, and Timothy Watson, Raleigh, NC. 2 nephews raised by Deacon and Mrs. Watson, Vernon Robinson (Brenda), Rich Square NC, and Terry Robinson, Clinton MD. 1 Brother- in- law, Edward S. Nare' Wilvino Ortiz

Nare’ Wilvino Ortiz was born August 1,1982 in Brooklyn, NY to Rene Ortiz and the late Marcine Ortiz. Nare’ was the baby boy of the family and affectionately was called “Man” by his close friends and relatives. Nare’ graduated from South Shore High School located in Brooklyn, NY where he played the sport he loved the most which was football. He wore the number 55 on his jersey proudly and was the biggest fan of the Dallas Cowboys. You couldn’t tell him anything about his team. From Monday through Sunday, he would watch football as if he was one of the players on the field. Nare’ was born an angel, a teacher to hundreds, a mentor to many, and a loving friend. He loved bowling, football, smelling good, and looking his Sunday best everyday. If you were lucky enough to know him; you would know he was a real kid at heart, a genuine person, honorable, and a God fearing man. He would give you the shirt off his back and the drink out of his cup. Nare’ accomplished great achievements throughout his life. He was awarded for being a Million Dollar Sales writer at his place of business. He was gifted and talented with working with people and always shared his knowledge. All he wanted was for people to be happy and to reach their highest potential and be the best person they could be. On June 18, 2003 while at work, Nare’ looked up (lo and behold) walked in the love of his life Odalis. She fell in love with his smile and never looked back; Odalis became his rock, heart, and backbone. Their love for each other was unconditional. Unexpectedly, Nare’ was called home to the Lord on July 11, 2020 at the age of 37; gone to soon. He will be reunited with his mother Marcine; Uncles: Frank, June, Epsie, and Matt; and Aunts: Princel and Trisha at the golden gates of Heaven. Cherishing his memories are his father Rene, loving fiancee Odalis, fur baby Bebe, two sisters: Nacaya and Maria, two brother-in-laws: Emerson and Vincent, two nieces: Nayana and Armani, two nephews: Nayem and Antonio, one Aunt Awilda, three uncles: Maurice, Manuel, and Rigo, his favorite sister cousin Marcine, and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends. His love and generosity will forever be missed!

ANTONIO GIL PITTMAN was born on September 20, 1987 in the city of Trenton New Jersey. Born to Irma Perez and Leon Pittam, he is the youngest out of all siblings. Antonio went to Delran and Willingboro public school districts while growing up as a child and graduated from Burlington County Institute of Technology in 2006 where he honed his craft as a printer in the Graphic Arts.
Antonio is remembered and survived by his mother Irma Perez, father Leon Pittman, sisters Catherine Perez, Nikki Pittman, brother Leon Pittman Jr, nieces Dulcenaya Lester, Samora Perez, Armani Sanders, nephews Trystan Perez, Jarvis Pittman, Phillip Pittman, King Lester and a host of family and friends. Antonio will be laid to rest with his eldest brother Felix “Junito” Perez at the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Burlington NJ.
Antonio was employed as a printer working for a company in Edgewater NJ where he enjoyed doing his job, he also worked for Gaetano's Willingboro NJ.
Antonio played little league CYO baseball, he also enjoyed producing beats for hip-hop music and he also liked to write music and rap as well. His friend Felix described Antonio as a person who really liked to pull pranks or have an epic joke to tell when one of his friends was feeling down, he went on to say that this really helped to cheer-up his friends when they were feeling down. His friend Adam shared a story about how he and Antonio had to prepare for a rap show. Because this was his and Antonio's first show ever they were very nervous and didn't have a song to perform, so Antonio and he wrote a rap song and memorized it in one day and went on to have a stellar show with the crowd chanting their names. This gave Antonio the inspiration to want to pursue a career in music.
Antonio will be remembered for his fierce love and loyalty toward his family and friends and his tender smile and his laugh. Although you may be gone, your spirit flies high and continues to spread your love all around us.
Antonio G. Pittman passed away on Friday, July 10th. Celebration of his life will be By family only on Saturday, July 18, 2020 10am at the Christ Redeemer Church, 426 Pine Street, Mt. Holly, NJ. Family and friends may do a walk through viewing Friday evening, July 17th 6pm until 8pm at the TL Hutton Family & Friends Funeral Services, 869 Beverly Road, Burlington, NJ. Interment: Odd Fellows Cemetery. Masks must be worn.
